One year ago, Dr. Aaron Spence assumed the role of Moore County Superintendent of Education. He came to Moore County from the Houston Independent School District where he was Chief High School Officer supervising over 200,000 students in 35 high schools. While he was Houston Superintendent, the drop-out rate decreased, and the graduation rate increased to an historic high. Science and math test scores and the number of students participating in advanced courses also increased dramatically during his tenure. Prior to Houston, Dr. Spence’s worked in Virginia for the both Chesterfield County and Henrico County Public Schools, and he served as an adjunct professor at the University of Virginia. During his seven years as principal of Deep Run High School in Henrico County, he led the school from its opening to the distinction of being named one of America’s Best High Schools by U.S. News & World Report. Dr. Spence received the REB Award for Distinguished Educational Leadership and was selected as an Emerging Leader by the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development – one of only 30 professional educators chosen to participate in the national cohort. |

The Moore Republican Womens Club held their October luncheon at the Pinehurst Members Club on Monday, October 1 beginning at noon. This day's program focused on the judicial races and featured a number of the candidates for judicial office. Unfortunately, some of the candidates who were eagerly anticipated were not able to attend. Foremost among these were Justice Paul Newby, who is running for re-election to his seat on the NC State Supreme Court. Also, David S. Robinson and Marty McGee, who are both running for the NC Court of Appeals were unable to join us. Finally, James P. "Jimmy" Hill was missed. However, the audience heard from the following: Jane Hughes Redding who is running to unseat Judge Rob Wilkins spoke first, followed by Judge Rob Wilkin himself. A major issue hanging over these speakers was the attacks on Judge Wilkins by the Democrat Political Action Committee which is backing Ms. Redding. Judge Wilkins has been heavily endorsed by all law enforcement entities in District 19B, by all major elected officials from this area, and by all local conservative organizations. |
Next came Bobby Elliot McCroskey who is running to unseat Judge Don "Skipper" Creed. He was followed by Judge Creed himself. Again, Judge Creed heavily dominates in endorsements by local officials and conservative organizations.
Chris Dillon, candidate for NC Court of Appeals, spoke last. Mr. Dillon is the endorsed and conservative contender. He is running against Democrat, Thigpen.
